According to the McCone County Catholic Church Directory of 1989, “Records dating back to 1910 show that a missionary priest made his way to John Schillinger’s home in Vida with a horse and buggy to say Mass.” St Ann’s Catholic Church was founded in 1922 by Father Rauh, OSB. It was originally a mission of Circle and changed hands to Wolf Point in the 1990s. With the help of the Catholic Extension Society and Ann Mahoney, the St Ann Church was built in 1933, and the dedication was celebrated by Bishop William J. Condon with a huge crowd in attendance.
A fire destroyed this church building on October 11, 1975. Only the bell in the church was able to be reclaimed from the ashes. The original bell of this church has just been restored. A new church was built and dedicated on June 14, 1977, by Bishop Schuster.
It was with great joy that the members of St Ann’s Church Vida, with friends and families, Fr Martin Ezeihuaku, and Bishop Michael Warfel, gathered to celebrate the 100 years anniversary on August 7, 2022.
