Sister Mary Frances Shafer was President of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Congregation (BVM) from 1980-1984. She died on January 3, 2017, at Caritas Center, Mount Carmel, Dubuque, IA.
Sister Mary Frances entered the BVMs on September 8, 1943 – 73 years as a BVM! She was 90 years of age at her death.
Sister Mary Frances was missioned to the Diocese of Great Falls from 1985-1995 and served as Director of Lay Ministry for part of that time.
Her funeral was January 9, 2017, in Marian Hall Chapel at the motherhouse in Dubuque.
